LEARN ABOUT CREATURES

(IN OUR OWN NEIGHBORHOODS)

this project is called LOCAL BIOLOGY (until we think of something better)

Record a mushroom (draft)

Record a mushroom (draft)

Level 2 means:
* this activity requires you to do some research
* this activity has a number of steps
* the activity uses another online tool, which is also undergoing lots of growth
* this activity needs some mushroom experts to give us some advice about what to do

I was pointed to this great website - www.mushroomobserver.org

Here's how you can get involved with locating mushrooms

Part One: Find Mushroom

  1. Step 1: Find a mushroom
Here's a starting point to learning how to do this, until we write something better: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mushroom_hunting
  2. Region specific hints: (is this appropriate)
  3. Find a mycological society, add it to the calendar, attend and report on the event.

Part Two: Report on mushroom

  1. Take pictures of the mushroom that you found
  2. Join mushroomobserver.org, add mushroom to website
  3. Write a report: Tell a story about the mushroom that you found. What was it? How was it growing? What does the mushroom eat?

Note: it would be really good to develop a Level 3 project, which involves getting involved in real local mushroom research. mushroomobserver.org has a lot of geolocated information about mushrooms, and seems like they hope to connect that with real scientific research about the mushrooms.
